Monterey: Another California City I Absolutely Loved

Monterey, California has a charming seaside town vibe that is very different from those beach towns in Southern California. Monterey is a coastal city with a population of about 28,000. Spending some time in Monterey, you can see that it is a tourist destination and rightfully so. After all, its pristine beaches, coastal vibe, and local attractions could make someone (like me) think of staying there forever.

Monterey offers a different kind of energy. Consider its rich history and its important role in Spanish and Mexican California and you would find yourself taken back in time. You can just feel a certain charm and beauty that may be incomparable to other California seaside towns. Just take a look at these photos!

Monterey, California

I was only able to take some photos of the beach/coast, Old Fisherman’s Wharf, and Cannery Row as we mainly focused on the sea breeze and enjoyed great company. (and having a few margaritas)

The Old Fisherman’s Wharf in Monterey, California is now mainly a tourist destination and is no longer home to commercial fishing.

Above photo is taken at lunch time. We decided to go Cannery Row first. We came back to the Old Fisherman’s Wharf in the late afternoon.

If you’re really on a budget, you can just stroll down the pier and you’re bound to see many restaurants offering you free samples of their “signature” clam chowder. I must say, most of them are pretty good! All of these samples would probably amount to a cup of soup!

Look at that crab! This one is also a promo/clam chowder sample station. Domenico’s had pretty good Clam Chowder. (above)

We ended the night listening to some saxophone music at the Wharf.

Overall…

It was a fun trip! I can’t wait to go back and truly explore the town. On the way back to Southern California about two days later, we stopped by Monterey again as we wanted to go on the 17-mile drive and then head down to Big Sur. I recommend you to visit Monterey when you get the chance. This costal town is truly beautiful!

Have you been here yet? What is you favorite thing to do in this beautiful coastal city?

oh man, we used to take weekend trips (or random trips when my dad had a day off) to the aquarium. I can’t believe how much I remember looking at your pictures. Monterey is one place I’m sure I could live and never ever tire of. Your pictures always make me so so homesick!! Can’t wait to see your Big Sur pictures.
