Our second day in New York City was such a memorable one. We had delicious food from pastrami sandwiches to falafel and so much more. Despite the rain in the evening that left us stranded in the New York City Public Library and at Grand Central Terminal, we still decided to push through and enjoy the rest of the night. Here are some highlights:
Lower East Side and Katz’s Delicatessen
Many people love NYC themed movies and if you remember Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan’s performance at that deli in “When Harry Met Sally,” you might also recall this place in lower Manhattan. Katz’s Deli is a pretty good place for some hand-carved and juicy pastrami sandwiches. I must say, it was pretty good despite being somewhat “tourist cliché.”

Got stuck in Midtown during spontaneous thunderstorm and rain
We agreed with our friends to meet at Bryant Park or at the New York Public Library. When we arrived in the area we already felt the mist that quickly turned into a shower; once we found ourselves inside the library, we heard and saw the pouring rain.
Now we’re stuck!
New York Public Library Main Branch – 476 Fifth Avenue (42nd St and Fifth Ave) New York City, NY 10018
So we explored the library for a while. We didn’t get a picture of it but there was a Alexander Hamilton mini exhibit in the library. Unfortunately, the library was about to close and everyone in the building were getting kicked out!
After getting kicked out, we ran to Grand Central Terminal to meet with our friends. We ended up soaking wet. And as you know, we weren’t going to take photos when it is pouring rain outside! Unfortunately, we didn’t get to go and explore Grand Central and take a few “travel” photos but here’s a few from Grand Central Terminal:
Had to take a selfie while drying off
Falafel and Drinks
When the rain finally stopped we made our way to 14th street on the east side and had some Halal Guys. Jessica and I shared a plate of falafel with rice and vegetables. We absolutely loved that tahini sauce! Then, we got some drinks after.
Our friend ordered this one (below) but I just don’t remember what it’s called.

Then some drinks with friends
Ordered wine, a Manhattan, and an Old Fashioned. Why not order a Manhattan in Manhattan, right?
Late Night Fun at Downtown, Staten Island Ferry, and the Brooklyn Bridge
This (below) is probably one of my favorite views/shots of our New York City trip. I just can’t help but get emotional when I see this building, The One World Trade Center or “Freedom Tower.”
Then we hopped on the free Staten Island Ferry
I highly recommend that you hop on the Staten Island Ferry if you find yourself in New York City. It is free and it gives you great views of Downtown Manhattan, the Statue of Liberty, the Brooklyn Bridge, and so much more.
We were exhausted but we got some energy to smile 🙂 Here we are lounging in the Staten Island Ferry:
And look, the Statue of Liberty! This photo just doesn’t do it justice.
Ending the night in Downtown and at The Brooklyn Bridge

… and good night!
This was such an exhausting but fun day. Sure the weather did not cooperate that much but we didn’t let that spoil the fun. Exploring New York City spontaneously on a hot, humid, and rainy night was such a joy. It’s always great to just go with the unknown energy and just let the night take you wherever it wants to take you. I am not a big fan of planning a day but this unplanned day was awesome! I hope you liked the pictures.
