Look at This Year’s Video Game Haul

Only a few know that I love video games. I grew up as an only child and video games would be a go-to activity when there is nothing else to do or no one else to hang out with. No, I was not a loner. In fact, I had many friends but I was home alone a lot! This year, I bought a few games to entertain myself. When traveling, I like having my Nintendo 3DS XL with me on the plane, train, bus, etc. Also, to kill some time at home, I would play my PS4 or Nintendo Wii U. So here’s my video game haul of 2016.

If you’re into casual (or sometimes intense) video games, you might like this video game haul list. I’m also including some YouTube videos just so you could see the gameplay.

Ron’s Video Game Haul 2016

These are not necessarily games that were released this year. I only buy games that are on sale or cheap enough. I don’t believe in spending more money on these things than I should. So I wait for them to drop in price on Amazon, or I price-match at Target or Walmart, or I get them pre-owned somewhere else. Here we goes the list of my video game haul:

#1 Story of Seasons (Nintendo 3DS)

I was a big Harvest Moon fan when I was younger and I really liked the idea of autonomy and self-reliance. Also, this game lets you go at your own pace and “determine” your destiny. Story of Seasons is a continuation of the original Harvest Moon series. You are a new farmer looking to change the town through farming, fishing, trading, building, producing, barn-tending, and etc.

I highly recommend this game for casual gamers. It is not an intense game at all and could occupy your for hours when you’re on a plane, train, car, or bus. Check it out on Amazon.

#2 Pokemon Alpha Sapphire (Nintendo 3DS)

I’m a “moderate” Pokemon fan and so I wanted to grab this game to entertain me during travel times in the East Coast this summer. A 6 hour flight to New York? I read a little bit on the plane but I also played a good amount of Pokémon Alpha Sapphire 🙂

To tell you the truth, I haven’t even finished this game yet. I recommend this for Pokemon fans of course.

#3 MLB The Show ’16 (Playstation 4)

I bought this as a digital download. I’m a fan of baseball and I’ve always liked baseball games so why not? It went on sale for a good amount so I got it! I love playing the Road to the Show (RTTS) mode where you advance through the league from minors to maybe a world series champ.

Right now, I’m a starting pitcher for the Anaheim Angels (yes, I still kind of refuse to call them the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim) and I just won the Cy Young award! Can you believe it?

#4 Yoshi’s New Island (Nintendo 3DS)

It’s a great platformer game that I recommend for both kids and adults. I bought this because this was on sale for only $19.99 as a Nintendo Selects game. Who doesn’t want to play a cute platformer like this? If you’re into the jumpy games, get this one!

#5 Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon (Nintendo 3DS)

I like collecting Nintendo games and when I saw this one on sale, I just had to get it for my library. It’s like buying music, you know? You just store it and every once in a while, you listen to it or play it!

You play as Mario’s brother, Luigi. All you do is pretty much explore mansions and “hunt” ghosts. I just love how much of a lovable coward Luigi can be!

#6 NBA 2K17 (Playstation 4)

Just like last year, I got an NBA 2K game for Black Friday. They reduce the price by 50% so why not? I love watching basketball and I love playing basketball video games. I love the online multiplayer aspect of it because you can play it with your friends, no matter where they are in the world. You just have to make sure that your Internet service is speedy.

I recommend this to all basketball fans!

#7 Gauntlet: Slayer Edition (Playstation 4)

Gauntlet was actually free through the PS Plus monthly free games program. This is a fun game I play with friends online. You basically go through a dungeon killing monsters with magic and melee. I recommend this for anyone who just likes pressing buttons and “planning” a point of attack. Eh, forget the planning–just press those buttons!

It’s great when you play online with friends. We had tons of laughs on this one!

#8 Batman Arkham Knight (Playstation 4)

Jessica and I just watched a bunch of Batman movies on HBO NOW. It just so happens that Playstation is having a Black Friday sale and Batman Arkham Knight was on sale. I said, why not? This was a digital download so I don’t know if we’re counting that as a video game haul. But sure, why not right? I still haven’t played it all that much since I’m waiting for the semester to be over.

#9 Star Wars: Battlefront (Playstation 4)

Just because of the Black Friday sale on the Playstation network. I also had some change and a discount code, so why not? The game is pretty fun and has a lot of first-person shooter action. I would only recommend if you can get this game for less than $20!

#10 A few LEGO games for Jess (PS3 & PS4)

I got Jessica some LEGO video games this year. She seems to enjoy the Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, and Hobbit LEGO video games. These are great games for movie fans, kids, and adults. I highly recommend this for casual fun!

So that is this year’s video game haul!

I must have spent a bit of money on these but no more than $200 this year. I collect these games purely for enjoyment and to fill a bookshelf. It’s just nice to look at sometimes!

Are you a gamer too? What games did you get this year? Leave a comment below 🙂
